Janis Blyth

Born in Victoria in 1959, Janis grew up as a child attending art classes at the Victoria Art Gallery. She later graduated from the University of Victoria with honours in a Fine Arts degree. Majoring in print making. After graduating in 1982, Janis moved to Vancouver where she lived for 25 years raising a family and working part-time in clothing retail.

This experience reflected in her artwork. The layering of paint and texture on the canvas was similar to creating a character with combinations of color and fabric, matching the personality of customers. One can see humour, strength and soulfulness in the women she paints.

Janis and her husband moved to Naramata, B.C., in 2007. Smitten by the vineyards and beautyof the area that pulled them there. Showhing her artwork at a few different wineries she eventually had her own gallery space at 3 Mile Winery. Here she could visit with many tourists and locals. These paintings are rich in color and capture the playful theme of the wine industry. Song and verse has also been a starting point for imagery in her art.

Like many artists Janis likes change and chooses to alter her mediums preferring acrylic as well as painting 3-D objects. The pull towards family has brought Janis and her husband back to Victoria and they reside in Fairfield.

Janis has participated in numerous group and solo shows and has work that can be seen in public collections in Vancouver.
